About This Guide: For Non-Gallaudet Researchers
The public is welcome to visit the Gallaudet University Library and use Library materials in the building. In addition, Washington Research Library Consortium students, faculty, and staff members may check out circulating books.
If you are not able to visit the Gallaudet University Library, you will most likely encounter difficulty accessing or obtaining the materials in this guide. If you have any questions about library policies or about the materials listed in this guide, you may contact the Library several ways:
- e-mail email@example.com
- send an IM to firstname.lastname@example.org
- videophone 866-957-4416
- telephone 202-651-5217
If your school, university, or public library does not have an item, ask your librarian to try to borrow it for you through a process called inter-library loan (ILL). Your library will send a request to libraries that own the item, and one of these libraries may lend it to your library. Then you can borrow it from and return it to your library.
Most libraries will not lend magazines and journals, but sometimes they can send photocopies of articles instead. This process normally takes at least one week, and sometimes much longer. There may be a charge for this service. Your library probably has an established ILL procedure and may be able to find deaf-related items closer to home than Gallaudet.
Gallaudet University Library will not lend non-circulating materials, such as Deaf Copy One books and videos. We will lend other books, if they are available, via an ILL request from a library.
